Howdy friends fans and neighbors, it’s May Day here in the old country, and we’re lazily laying around the house, groaning from so many hours in the saddle yesterday: we drove about eight hours to two separate gigs- one in Holland and the other in Belgium. The Dutch show was fast and furious- we loaded in, ate, played a crazy quick set to about 500+ Hollanders all packed in like sardines to this sweet outdoor courtyard staged Queen’s Day event, loaded up and drove three hours to the second show. There, we were wined and dined SO WELL- I love how they treat musicians over here- and we played another three sets for the action-packed pub crawl going on all over town. Folks came out and line-danced, yup, it’s true. And we got a tour of Den Arend (the venue)’s basement and their 500 liter kegs!! The boys were oh so happy. And the owner Claude gave the band a lovely gift of Hapkin, a unique savory blond locally made beer that nearly matches Westmalle Dubbel in Jorge’s eyes (and mouth, actually). Now I keep pestering Kevin for details and he’s just trying to zone out, poor thing!
We’re all working on about 3 hours sleep, plus all that sitting time in the van, ouch my backside… and of course, since it’s May Day, everything is closed, so we’re somewhat housebound… noodles for the wicked later today
Hope to see y’all down the road soon, Ruby Dee
