It Just Doesn’t Get Much Better Than This
We just played in beautiful Brussels tonight, at the most astonishingly gorgeous bar-club downtown near the old stock exchange- L’Archiduc is a period piece bar replete with high backed seats around the room, art deco doorway and plastered walls, finite but well stocked bar- hey I even got a Knob Creek Manhattan and was happy about it! The ambiance was pure 1920′s deco decadence!
We had no idea again what to expect this night, when we arrived at the bar, it was extremely mellow and down low, so we figured make a couple of jazzy sets and keep the rockin’ out of it tonight. But once we started, we just couldn’t do it. We turned it up and on and rocked the house by far! A favorite minister of finance came in and enjoyed the show, the band Running Wild stopped by and danced all over in thanks for us turning it up a few notches, a few Englishmen had planned to stop in for a drink and ended up staying for the music, Steve Berlin from Los Lobos even showed up, didn’t stay for the whole set but gave Jorge a goodly thumbs up on his way out the door. They’re playing in Brussels tomorrow night, so we’re hoping jokingly that they’ll call on us to open up for them! Hey, a gal can dream…
One more tidbit about L’Archiduc: it’s David Bowie’s favorite bar to drop into whenever he’s in Brussels. If he’d walked in tonight, I might very well have made a fool of myself gushing over Bowie or forcing an Americana roots version of Ziggy Stardust on him! Could be worse…
If you ever find yourself in Brussels, stop by L’Archiduc and be treated oh so well, and tell ‘em Ruby sent you!
We’re spending a lovely day tomorrow with friends in Turnhout, then 13 shows in 8 days, ha!!! Hope to see you down the road soon, we have new CD’s and t-shirts to lighten our load before heading home, so stop by, help us out, and we’ll be happy to see you then, Ruby Dee
