Ca Plane Pour Moi for sure!
We’re in, quietly revamping the events of the past few days, wild, intense, exhausting, stinky, going at about 1000+, having a hard time coming down in a way… However so much to say- we were back in Holland, the land of the tall today, after an earlier show just outside Brussels where we played an open air festival at a local arts school. It was one of those funny gigs with folks coming and going, and you’re never quite sure if they’re there for you or passing through… But hey we just smile and play along. What else can ya do?
Then up to Vlissingen in Holland for a wonderful evening, treated just as we needed at the time! The food was the best we’ve dined upon thus far this tour- bouillabaisse, french onion soup, steaks with mushrooms and frites, fresh fish, all so carefully prepared and perfect in every way. And back at the club, we sold out their room, roused from full belly slumber-brains, and took that stage by storm, I can truly say we owned that room! What a feeling that is. And yes, they too loved Ca Plane Pour Moi by Plastique Bertrand, local Belgian boy done good.
And especially after a day of stress over somethings not going well and what we can do- if anything- to make things smoother. Turns out we needed to just get a few things out in the open, make a few adjustments, and then chill back and allow things to run their course otherwise. It feels so good to know everyone’s cool and having a decent time. Makes the tour so much more palatable, fun, enjoyable, all the above.
One man came up on stage and kissed me. He told his wife who got jealous and said she wanted to kiss the bass player. Hoowee, sorry! He’s taken darlin’. The folks who run the venue Die Piek are stellar- they know how to take care of a band with great food, stocked fridge, towels, assistants to run our gear, complete sound and lighting check, you name it. It felt nice to be treated like that.
Jorge and I both say that the guys both played like rock stars tonight- sure, it was the room and all the help- but mostly it’s there, inately waiting to strike from below, and strike they did! Everyone keeps telling us “Oh these are the best we’ve ever seen with you!” And we tend to agree.
Our merch bag is blissfully lightening up, so that by the time we return from Brussels to Geneva on Easyjet, we won’t have to pay another 1000! And the bass we are renting from Ron Bullfiddler is exquisite- what a lovely depth and great playability. Thanks for the loaner Ron!
We’re at Cooperville tomorrow afternoon, then check our schedule to see where we are the rest of the week. Then we’re here for 4 more days and off to a week in Germany. I hope all our friends over here come see us before we go!!
See you soon amigos and amigas, Ruby Dee
