Love Me Some Blue Highways

Howdy y’all! We’re not from around here! We’re from Austin Texas!

That’s been our version of the Texas war cry the past week, and it seems to be working out for us just fine. We drove through blue highway small towns today on route from Bloomsburg PA to Pittsburgh- including a town that boasts a peanut butter festival, subway eating contests, and ever so much more…

We played a fun show on Sunday with Lil’ Mo and the Dixons at Union Pool in Brooklyn- what a great place. From the gorgeous tiny jewel stage complete with a ring of vaudeville bulbs and frame arch to the gurgling fountain out in the cool, cool courtyard, high tin-stamped ceilings and permanently parked taco truck- this place is a place after my own heart.

Lil’ Mo sounded in prime form- though while we were playing, she leaned back onto a side bar into one of the candles there and caught her hair on fire! We played a fantabulous set- and the Frankenstein bass actually sounded better than I’ve ever heard it sound! Funny how that happens… The Dixons put on a great show, and the crowd went home drunk and happy. My kinda people.

We got back to the house at 3am, and Jorge and I were up for our 8:30am phone-in live radio interview. That’s just wrong… For some reason I couldn’t sleep, so I worked on about 3 hours sleep yesterday, and trust me, that’s wrong too. Just ask the guys in the van with me!!

So we wondered what to expect our 3rd night out- flood the first night, fire the second, famine the third? Well, not exactly, but the crowd at Harry’s Grille was a little small. However those who did show up had a great time. And the owner of the venue and his family put us up- very nice folks, with a very sweet establishment downtown. They fed us well, drank us even better, and put us up nice and warm- it was cold there last night! We were definitely not in Texas any more… So now we’re thinking maybe locusts tonight at the Thunderbird here in good ol Pittsburgh PA…

Oh and before I forget, I do need to say thanks Uncle Matt!! For putting us up all weekend and for bringing us out to NYC- we had a great time and it was great seeing y’all.

Catch the rest of y’all soon out there, we hope!

P.S. And we just got word we’ll be playing Willie’s Place in Carl’s Corner mid-October. Boy howdy! That’s some great news!
