Characters coming out of the woodwork

Howdy everybody- well well well, what to say the last week of our tour over here? Believe it or not, I actually feel like I’ve nearly run out of words! We had a few nights off, which were most welcome- the rhythm section went to Amsterdam and the Ardennes, taking some time apart, which hey, you sometimes need on the road. Jorge and I took a little day trip to Antwerp with our new pals Christine and Arne, and had a specially great time, just eating our way through town. Mussels, frituurs, videes, Westvalle Dubbel, chocolates, coffee and cognac… Yum.

Ok so back to the happy grind: last night we played at Libertad in Leuven- that is such a beautiful town. The owner is a supremely nice man too, and the bar staff remembered us from last year- or was it two years ago? Either way, they remembered, and hopefully that’s a good thing!

We played to a full room of appreciative folks- though gotta tell ya, one greaser came up to Jorge and told him “Great guitar, but you should never sing.” Woah… I’m sorry senor, but to tell you the truth, Jorge’s been doing a fine frigging job singing not only back-up, but also jumping in there on his own tunes to give my voice a rest. And he sounds great! So take that, mister ‘I’m gonna sit at the corner of the bar and glare and sulk and ogle your lady’. Fun times, woop! Everyone has loved Jorge singing, so ha-ha-ha.

We met yet another interesting character at the end of the night, who proceeded to entertain us to no end, really. I shouldn’t repeat half what he said or did, but hoo, coming out of the woodwork!

Tonight we play in Duffel, and I’m a little nervous- our friend Eddie is pals with this AMAZING klezmer/cirque du soliel four piece- where everyone plays about 8 instruments- and they’re coming to see us. Oh my, I hope they like us even half as much as we enjoy their music. Jorge went to see them with Eddie last week while I rested my voice, and brought back a DVD so I could check them out too- of course, I can’t recall their name right now, and Jorge took the DVD with him when he took off today to go hang with El Presidente, so… you’ll have to wait to hear who they are!

Well, so much for nearly running out of words ;-)
Hope to see you all somewhere soon,
Ruby
