California here we is!
Mucho cooler out here on the coast, phew!! And what a ride we had last night, friends! We played at Bar Pink in San Diego, and our buddy Chris flew down from Seattle to hang out with us all weekend, starting out in SD, so that was a great start. But here’s the thing that makes last night so unique to the Snakehandler experience: normally, we play to a honky tonk crowd, or a rockabilly crowd, or a combo of the two entwined. But last night? Man, there were beach folk, hipsters, California coolers, a few swingsters, but really, a HUGE variety of folks from all walks of life, style and preferences. And we played our normal two-setter of honky tonk with attitude for ‘em. It was FUN to see them react and get into it. And FUN to sing to one or two select folks I picked out of the crowd- you know who you are…!
We stayed up way too late- closing time!- and got up a bit too early to have breakfast with my folks- and are now relaxing at my friend Audrey’s in Santa Monica before our show tonight in Long Beach at the Puka Bar. Hopefully some folks will come out to the show- we have no idea what to expect, since we’ve never played this venue before. Funny, we’ve had a lot of that this tour, but all in all, every venue has been a really great surprise. Folks have been appreciative and engaging, and we’ve had a lot of fun, and will definitely be back for more!!
If you’re reading this and are near where we’re playing coming up over the next week or so, please come on out to say howdy! We’d love to see you too.
Until then, keep on honky tonkin’/boppin’,
Ruby
