Oh, Dallas…

Howdy friends! We played at Dallas’ beautiful Granada Theater last night, and let me tell you how fine these folks are- they know how to treat a touring band extremely well- made me feel like a princess for an hour or so. Hell, made the GUYS feel like princesses for an hour or so!! You don’t have to tell Jorge I said that though…! The theater is really nice, with great sound and an incredible stage, and the best technicians you could hope for out there.

Not a whole heap of folks came out to the show, which we played with Sarah Borges and Rev Payton’s Big Damn Band. Both these folks are more bluegrassy rootsy rockin’ than us, so they matched up well, and we felt like the rockabilly meat filler in the middle! We’ll come back and play the Granada again for certain, paired up with someone like The Reverend Horton Heat for good measure. Dallas, we’ll be baaaack!!

And I have to say- Hell, I even insulted someone inadvertently here online- I’d written a bulletin making reference to Ruby Dee and the Snakehandlers being a force of nature hitting Texas, which is how someone described us the other night. But someone took offense to that and wrote me a scathing reprimand about how I was taking all the suffering that happened down south of here lightly! My reply: Hell no, I do not. My cousin’s house even took some damage, and I always feel strongly about what folks go through when times are tough. Been there myself at times… I apologize if I offended anyone out there, truly.

We’re heading down to Austin to play the Continental on Friday 9/26, then over to Hunter to play Riley’s 75th anniversary on Saturday 9/27 (!), Helotes at Floore’s Country Store on Sunday 9/28, and Sam’s in San Antonio on Monday 9/29. Then hightailing it over to El Paso for a fun-filled show at Take II on Tuesday 9/30!! See what I’m talking about? If that isn’t a force of nature tour through Texas, then I don;t know what all to call it!

Hope to see you out and about somewhere soon,
Ruby Dee
