Honky-tonk rocks The Bunkhouse
“Was my lovin’ just not good enough for you?” Ruby Dee asks a two-timing ex on “North of Bakersfield,” the latest release by Ruby Dee and the Snakehandlers. Dee doesn’t seem particularly wounded. Instead, she sounds galvanized, a little defiant, and you can almost hear her sticking her jaw out as she sings. That’s the thing about the Seattle band: The Snakehandlers make the kind of cast-iron honky-tonk that doesn’t shed too many tears or scare easily.
